We wanted to express our heartfelt thanks to those who were able to attend (as well as to those who were with us in spirit) / or contribute to our first fundraiser. You helped make it a success!
Arts and health is a growing international field that embraces many forms of art to promote health and prevent disease in individuals and communities, enhance health services delivery and enrich research inquiry. People across the lifespan from infants to seniors, across culture and across the health continuum from prevention to end of life care can benefit from arts and health activities. We believe that engaging in expressive work, be it visual arts, dance, music, literature or movement contributes greatly to the wellbeing, health (physical and mental) of individuals. In total, from this fabulous event, we were able to raise $820. This is a great start towards solidifying our presence and moving forward with our mission.
The evening was about celebrating and we did just that!. Suzanne Valois's welcome and inspirational words set the tone for a fun evening, followed by a wonderfully eclectic mix of six talented musical acts and of course the fun of bidding on great items at the silent auction item.
Thank you to our musical entertainment of Pamela Holm,(folky and lyrical) Claudia Salguero(Latin Jazz) with a great surprise accompaniment of Manhattan Glow trumpeter - what a wonderful impromptu duet!, Heather Lynn Song (country with a powerful voice) , Roxanne Goodman (inspirational story and so soulful), Elizabeth Riley Band (fun, lively and fabulous) and Manhattan Glow (Groovy Jazz that blew us away so much ... we asked for more!). We could not have done it without the wonderful organizational skills and musical know how of Patricia Reynolds and Carmel Whittle along with these talented musicians.
Thanks to the generous donations of our members and friends we collected 31 items for the silent auction. Items ranged from animal birth totem cards, to original art work, to voice lessons. A list of our donors and items donated will be listed in our meeting minutes.
HUGE thank you to volunteers behind the scenes and during the event. Thanks to Ana Daza for her beautiful graphic designs, to Jadzia Romaniec for connecting us to great talented acts, Linda for stepping in to help with CD sales, Gwen Cowan and Lin Roswell for all things silent auction, Maryse Hartchard for door duty, and Kat Clarida for being such a great master of ceremonies, keeping us moving along, laughing and drumming!
Last but not least, a thanks to Pressed Cafe for hosting us and allowing us to use this great space for our gathering.
It was a great event with wonderful music, generous and fun people. Thank you again!
